Talk Art talks Cork Street
Ahead of London Gallery Weekend, Robert Diament, Russell Tovey, and The Art Newspaper’s Louisa Buck return to Cork Street for another Talk Art special.
Listened to in over 170 countries across the world, Diament and Tovey’s series achieved transatlantic #1 status during November 2023 – something a musician would kill for – albeit in the Apple US and UK podcast charts.
With all ears on Cork Street for this episode, listeners are transported from wherever they may be to art’s beautiful address, a site of firsts for both artists and movements from the 1920s onwards. With over 43,000 square feet of exhibition space today, Cork Street is according to Diament, “the soul of art.”
Calling on galleries including Alison Jacques, Tiwani Contemporary, Frieze No.9 Cork Street, Waddington Custot, Goodman Gallery, Stephen Friedman, Holtermann Fine Art and Flowers Gallery, they discover current exhibitions but also explore the 99 year history of this iconic Mayfair stretch, perfectly placed in London W1. While crediting The Pollen Estate with re-energising the street and emphasising its commitment to preserving the integrity, heritage and historic credentials of both Cork Street and Savile Row.
“This is where it’s at,” declares Tovey. Having recently spent time at the 60th Venice Biennale with friend of Cork Street Louisa Buck, the trio find that Sir John Akomfrah, the artist representing Britain with his work Listening All Night To The Rain, is the recipient of Cork Street Galleries’ Banners Commission 2024 – unveiled on Cork Street for London Gallery Weekend, Friday 31 May to Sunday 2 June 2024.
